Psychotherapy
& Consultation

I believe that the therapeutic relationship should be flexible and collaborative.

Welcome, I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with offices in Manhattan's Greenwich Village/Union Square. I've been practicing for over 18 years, and work with adults, adolescents and couples on a wide range of personal and relationship issues.

Psychotherapy is only effective when it happens in a safe and caring environment—and when it focuses not only on developing self-awareness, but also on using that awareness to make positive real-world improvements in your life. Therapy should provide the space for exploring new possibilities as well as for developing the specific tools and skills necessary for making important and enduring changes.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship should be flexible and collaborative. My style is supportive, focused and interactive. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as interpersonal, psychodynamic and mindfulness-based approaches, taking into consideration the interrelationship between the mind and body in emotional well-being.

I see individuals with many different backgrounds and concerns. I welcome working with people from all cultures, sexual orientations and spiritual/religious beliefs. I have specialized training and expertise in anxiety, traumatic stress, depression, eating disorders and addictive behaviors. I also focus on helping people with challenges they face while developing personal and professional identities, negotiating their relationships and adjusting to life changes.

I completed my Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Yale University. In addition to my private practice, I worked for over a decade on developing and testing psychological treatments as a Research Scientist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University Medical Center. I have also co-authored two books and a number of peer reviewed articles on specific evidence-based psychotherapies. Both my practice and my research have been devoted to finding effective ways to help people feel better and to make meaningful changes in their lives.

I'm happy to offer a brief initial phone consultation at no charge.
